2-Hydroxy-4′-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-2-methylpropiophenone (IRGACURE 2959) is a radical photoinitiator that can efficiently be activated with 365 nm UV light. It is widely used for the crosslinking of a number of photocurable biomaterials in order to create hydrogels or bioinks for 3D bioprinting and tissue engineering purposes. As Irgacure 2959 is not water-soluble, it must be solubilized in organic solvents such as methanol.
